If you’ve alighted on this blog and this — its first — post, it’s almost certain to have been quite by accident (hmm, might it even by divine appointment?), since I’m merely starting out on WordPress and trying to find my way and haven’t promoted this venture.
I’m a non-cyber-techie sort and really don’t know what I’m doing. However, one never reaches a destination without taking that first step of the journey toward it. And that is what I’m doing here.
“Raise the Gaze,” my humble website at freewebs.com, was a learning experience and has run for a number of years. I’ve neglected it for some months now, for I contemplated making a change and getting this one up and running.
(Incidentally, I continue to post each month on The Word Guild authors BlogSpot on Blogger.)
My theme here will continue to be the raising of the gaze — my gaze as well as the reader’s. A basic motif is that I seek to raise the reader’s focus “from the feeding trough of life to gratitude and thanksgiving, from the mundane to the marvellous, from the secular to the sacred and from the temporal to the eternal.” And that arose from my own need to be attentive to doing this in my own life.
And so, I’ve named this blog Raise Your Gaze. Try it. Make it personal. As you go through your day, what raises your gaze? It may be such a small, seeming insignificant thing; something beautiful and good — an object, a view, or a situation. Or, it may be something unpleasant and yet, it causes your focus to shift for the better; an upward reaching of the soul, or perhaps an elevation of the spirit.
I encourage you to engage in this pursuit and become aware of gaze-raising ‘things,’ even for a day, and invite you to tell me about it, by leaving a comment. Thank you.
